PET EXPO 2007
The Club returned to Pet Expo after a two year absence with a well
placed stand that generated lots of interest. Who wouldn’t want to pat
an OES?. There were lots of compliments from fellow exhibitors and the
general public on how colourful the stand was. The Bobtales at Play
photographic competition provided a heap of funny and cute photos of
our OES being themselves.
The stand generated lots of interest and, of course, everyone wanted to
pat the ‘Dulux’ dog. There were loads of questions about grooming,
exercising, feeding and a great deal of surprise about the gentle
nature of our favourite breed. The question about the dog going blind
if the hair is tied up popped up, yet again.
A reminder of why the Club promotes our lovable breed happened on
Saturday afternoon. A gentleman and his wife and 12 year old daughter
came to visit the stand and he spent an hour patting Chester and trying
hard not to cry. Their OES had died about 4 months ago and although
they have two rescue Samoyeds, he desperately wants another OES. This
family touched us all and made the day more than worthwhile.

Our very own personal Grenadier Guard, Cathie Page and Alamo, together
with Pamela and Baxter, took part in the Pageant of Breeds each day and
on Sunday we made the finals against some pretty stiff competition.
The Pageant is an additional opportunity to show off each breed and a
brief history of the breed is read out to the general public.
Thank you to all of our Expo’sers for bringing their owners along to
spend time talking to the general public and helping to educate them
that whilst an OES does take work to look after, they are well worth
every second of it. Tessa even went to sleep because the lady patting
her was so relaxed!
Andrew Hutchings, our raffle ticket seller raised over $600.00 for the
Club and Anna and Andrew also took out first and third prizes in the
Bobtales at Play photography competition. Keith Ellis won second
prize. Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all who
participated in the competition. The judge said it was very hard to
pick the best photograph but two OES trying to drive a car won her
heart.

There are now a number of very well groomed dogs sleeping it off in
backyards in Sydney. Why is it that people who don’t have an OES have
to pat their hair up and round instead of down – like the hair falls
naturally!!!!! Oh well, with trusty hair brush in hand we made sure
that was rectified, sometimes before the public even left the stand!
The Club plans to continue the Pet Expo tradition again in 2008 and it
would be great to see some of our pet owners come along and say hello,
or even help out on the stand. It doesn’t matter if your dog is not in
full coat – and more tails would be great to see on the stand too.
A BIG thank you to:
Jill Clinch – for assisting with setup of the stand
John and Kerry McLean – for donating two of the four raffle prizes
Anna and Andrew Hutchings – for donating the fourth prize for the raffle
Dulux – for donating the major raffle prize of the stuffed Dog plus all the great giveaways
